Limón Contemporary Dance (Beginners)

Join Arwyn Carpenter for Limón contemporary dance technique to speak from the heart through the body.

About this experience

The Limón contemporary dance technique makes use of the upper chest as the centre for expression. We will speak with our hearts. We do a series of exercises to increase range and dynamics of movement through the torso including swinging, suspending, undulating and falling, adding arms and legs to fill out the artistry. Arwyn's class incorporates improvisations, little choreographed stories and makes full use of our small spaces online.

A dancer and choreographer, trained in ballet and contemporary dance, Arwyn Carpenter has an MFA from the Tisch School at NYU. She has taught dance for York and Ryerson Universities as well as Canada's National Ballet School and the Canadian Contemporary Dance Theatre. Arwyn's dance art grows out of her concerns for the climate and the natural world. She believes Indigenous wisdom is the way forward. Her teaching is about physical exploration and storytelling. She has a BEd from OISE and taught for the Toronto District School Board for ten years. She is now taking a break to go deeper into her writing and her dance work.
