Ep7: Exploring Indigenous Issues Through the Arts

In this episode of “Body Talk” Dr. Traci L. Scheepstra interviews Arwyn Carpenter, an award-winning elementary school teacher, dancer, and choreographer. Join them as they talk about ways to explore Indigenous issues through the arts. Arwyn shares her creative process for getting an entire school of children to participate in Orange Shirt Day (a day to commemorate the residential school experience and commit to the process of reconciliation in Canada) where dance is the means for storytelling. We also talk about the impact of embodied experiences as students learn about Canada’s history through the arts. Plus, Arwyn shares a movement-based land acknowledgement that all schools can embrace and teach to their students.
