Ep12: Teaching Movement-Based Modalities During Covid

In this episode of “Body Talk” Dr. Traci L. Scheepstra interviews Norma McMillan, an elementary health and physical education specialist who teaches in the Teacher Education Program at Western University in London, Ontario. Norma is also a full-time elementary educator in a Canadian public school. Join them as they talk about teaching movement-based modalities during Covid with social distancing protocols in mind. They stress that students need to move as it is a means to support student engagement, learning, and mental health and well-being. Together Traci and Norma talk about the best ways to use different spaces from the classroom, gymnasium, to the outdoor playground. The clear message is that students can still move and have fun while also maintaining their personal space. Furthermore, Norma shares how she taught health and physical education online (in the spring of 2020) for teachers who are looking for tips and ideas to facilitate movement in a virtual format.
