Culturally Responsive Teaching Through the Arts

Building community and creating a sense of belonging requires integrating the diversity of our students into the classroom and the curriculum. To do this teachers must adopt a culturally responsive approach to teaching and relationship building. This includes integrating a student’s prior knowledge and lived experiences into the curriculum so they can see themselves reflected in what they are learning and having a deep knowledge of each student from who they are to how they learn so that a respectful and trusting relationship can be developed. In this video you will learn how music, dance and storytelling can help you learn more about your students and support culturally responsive teaching to make learning relevant and fun for your students.
